I’m starting this blog as a way of collecting my thoughts and documenting my travels. The experience of life is amazingly subjective. There’s no way to fully understand the life of another, but words strung together into sentences can convey enough information to be useful. If we take a reductionist approach, and reduce an individuals mind down to the connectome, then enough written text from me may slowly become a closer and closer approximation of my individual mind; however, I’m not entirely sure that we as humans are simply the collective sum of our parts.
You may not know me, and I may not know you, but through writing we can do amazing things. Words can travel across the world and convey the smallest details about the strangest things. If we have these ideas, and never write them down, they become lost to world. I’m hoping to get a handle on that loss.
I’d also like to use this blog as a way for people to get to know me in a way that’s deeper than what could have been my company website. The one thing I’m really passionate about is capturing life through photography. I tried branding something like Kenneth Paul Photography, but it just seems cheap to me. I don’t know why building a brand in that sense feels to cheapen what I do, but that’s where I’m at. Maybe it’s the countless people who use their name, and put the word “photography” behind it. Or maybe it’s the perfectly crafted website with the two paragraph about section, and many smiling happy customers. Nothing against those sites, but maybe there’s another way.
If I show up to a photo shoot, I’d like that person to already feel like they know me. Hopefully my blog can help in that way, as well as provide a much deeper level of connection than a branded website that only talks about photography. A lot of this site will be about photography, but a lot it also won’t be. I want it to be more raw. No pun intended. I don’t want to care about perfect grammar and perfect sentence structure. I don’t want anything to hinder my desire to write content. I’m sure my writing will get cleaner on its own, naturally.
